BOOOOOOOO, I AM SO ANGRY AT YOU

Okay now that my shipper heart has been satisfied - I am curious about why you feel this way. What about them specifically or their interactions weirds you out? Like, I think they're both kind of dark, fucked-up people, so I can see a lot of different things that this might stem from, but I'm curious about what specifically your issues are.

Because Root was a pretty bad person before she joined Team Machine. I also have yet to hear her actually apologize to Shaw and Finch for what she did to them.

Thing is, I am getting the feeling that the writers ship it. Actually ship it. Not in a queerbaiting way but maybe more one sided with Root liking Shaw in that way. Though Shaw not feeling the same because she is simply incapable of having that sort of a emotional connection with someone. But in her own way, she cares for Root as well. Perhaps in the same way she cares about Bear or Reese.

The writers and actors have said on panels that something of the sort is what they're going for. Like, in the sense that Root is explicitly and canonically flirting with Shaw, although how much of that is Root wanting to mess with Shaw and how much of it is real attraction is still ambiguous. It's definitely an element that's intentionally being written, whether the writers fully ship it or not.

Perfection weirds you out?

Hahaha no seriously it's the perfectest ship with all the onscreen (one-sided) flirting I ever wanted. Root is like fucking enchanted by Shaw, and you can see Shaw steadily allowing herself to show that she enjoys her company. I was already shipping it when they met and had their flirt on, but then that episode where Shaw punches Root (who looked so glad to see her) in the face in a tunnel happened, and it was complete otp time for me. I can't not watch episodes with them without thinking their interactions are Root courting a socially disabled badass.

RIGHT? RIGHT? It's the best.

I honestly don't know why I ride so hard for them. Is this what having an OTP feels like?

Yes. I thought Reese/Finch was my otp, and they're cool too, but then it turned out my squealing happiness had nothing on that compared to Shaw/Root.

When Root asked Harold if he could give Shaw a message I genuinely believed it was going to be a "I love you" type thing. (...Not that I can imagine those exact words coming out of Root's mouth, but I do think it had something to do with her pesky feelings for Shaw.)

I'm hoping that gets brought up again at some point, but it probably won't.

I don't remember that line, and I haven't seen this week's ep yet, but that's what I'd think too. If there ever was a flat out way of saying it, it would be worded funny for sure though, if it even was verbal. Sort of like how the mini root little girl last season put into words that Shaw wasn't broken and got a sweet hug out of it.

Sadly, there was no episode this week. And the episode I referenced was a couple back, I think. (Right before Root went all guns blazing. Which was super hot, btw.)

IA, neither of them seem the sentimental type and I don't think they would say anything normal in that situation, lol. It makes sense and is all the more interesting, imo.

same here. And I was SO GLAD because I was worried they were going to hook Root and Harold up and that's just a big fat NOPE from me.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-08 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Same! I can't stand the thought of Root/Harold. Even though the kidnapping was a long time ago, it still doesn't set right with me. They're better as friends and comrades. (Plus, Reese/Harold is my OTP as well.)

There was a time I thought the Root/Shaw was kind of one-sided, but this season is making me think otherwise.

(this is elaminator, btw, just logged out on my phone)

I am here for this, Root is just so open about her flirting and Shaw just nocurr, it's awesome. And Shaw kinda cares about her in the end, and they are always so cute when they interact.

And Shaw will even admit when Root does something awesome or hot (bringing out the double "machine" guns and taking out a chunk of bad guys for instance). I'm a sucker for tropey cliches, so tsundere/deredere is really good for me.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-08 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Have you watched the show? Root is always flirting with Shaw, which is probably what the shippers (including me) pick up on. Also, actual feelings were pretty much established as canon this season.

"People" can include the writers kthx

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2014-11-08 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
na

You don't have to be rude. When you said "people" it makes sense that fans would come to mind rather than the actual writers. If you wanted people to understand that you were also referring to folks actually involved with the show, then it would have been more clear if you had actually stated that

(Anonymous) 2014-11-08 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
But it's pretty much canon by now! It's not even subtle. Writers ship it, both actresses ship it. This pairing's not a 'weird' thing that fans have made up, it exists in-universe. (Which is bloody awesome, by the way!)

"People" includes the actors and writers, dear anon.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
So, everyone, including the writers, thinks it's awesome and totally gets why ship this two, and you're the minority that doesn't. Which means it's you who have a weird take on it, not 'people'.
