I actually don't know if there are people who'd see it that way; that's why I'm asking.

I'm just thinking that fandom has a tendency to never be satisfied with what they get. So I can imagine if something like my scenario happened, there might be a (more or less vocal) minority saying "Well, if they're willing to go there, why not go all the way?"

I'm very glad that most responses so far have been so positive. :)

I was kind of wondering if there was a story behind the question or if it came out of the tendency to expect the worst from fandom (read: tumblr, usually). I am curious now if anyone will go against the other responses here.

The thing that got me wondering about that question was the Rizzoli & Isles fandom on afterellen and tumblr. The biggest ship is Jane and Maura, but in season 4 Jane was kind of a dick to Maura. That's when I saw some people expressing the sentiment that Maura should just get herself a girlfriend who respects her and isn't Jane. And I just wondered how the fandom would have reacted if that had happened.
