If you lend an ear when your friends need someone to talk to, they probably appreciate it. Very rarely can you 'solve' someones problem, but you can be there for emotional support. I'm not sure there's much else you can do, tbh.

Like sarillia said, sometimes knowing that someone loves you enough to ask if you're feeling okay or to listen to you talk out your issues, that's a help in itself.
