Oppressed people don't always turn into rapists, murders, and abusive assholes though so what is this logic.

And it'd be one thing if a few characters were evil or morally grey, but practically all of them are.

It's also just bad storytelling to not set up the story so the audience can see the oppression as it happens, one of my biggest problems with Freakshow is that in episode 1 the freaks are already being horrible. Maybe we know their life has been bad, but you still need more time to set that up in order to follow the rules of show vs tell.

Except they've all been in the business for years, and a lot of the oppression/horrible stuff happened when they were kids. The show doesn't have *time* to do the life story of every single character.

And really, except for the 'freak her out with a film of her' thing, none of the 'freaks' read to me as 'horrible people' - just people who are fed up with being treated badly. Most of them are actually pretty sympathetic, and it's not like they're all doing horrible things to random people daily. They're pretty decent and empathetic, and hopeful for a better life/to be treated better at some point.

The only person that seems really *horrible* to me is Elsa (Jessica Lange) and of course Dandy and his mom, who is horrible by virtue of being utterly clueless. And the townspeople/cops who killed Miep (Meep?).
