Nope! Almost all my life I've had a bit of an... issue with large franchises. I still do, as a matter of fact; though I am beginning to find my ways around it. But as a consequence, I haven't watched a single iconic Western show longer than 40 eps, the only exceptions being Agatha Christie's Poirot and the Granada Holmes.

That's interesting.

There's parts of that I think you would quite like. Probably Two, maybe Seven, and especially Four seem like they might appeal to you perhaps. Certainly more than new Who would.

I admit I was thinking of watching Old Who, too. I do suspect I would like it better. But it so happens that Capaldi is my main fandom's fancast of choice; and that many traits of the Capaldi!Doctor look like they could belong to our character (Dr. Joseph Bell, JFYI). So I have a sort of urge to watch this particular part.

As someone with some issues with longer shows I can say that Doctor Who isn't bad. Most episodes have the same setup: Doctor and companion go somewhere solve crisis there the end. As long as you stay out of fandom you can watch most episodes outside of their original context without missing much.
