(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 02:58 am (UTC)(link)I'm just saying that I think that's why Kirk and Spock's relationship (even with all its problems) is the best in the new films. Precisely because the writers had TOS to rely on.
I brought up Spock and Uhura because it's an example of a canon romantic relationship that really doesn't work for me. It's also exclusive to the reboots which is a major reason I think it suffers so much since the reboot writers were building it from the ground up. Which was largely the tie back to Kirk and Spock.
If you want to ship Spock and Uhura, go for it. I don't know where I've attacked anyone who ships it. Hell, I think it'd be damned cute if well written. But, in my opinion, it isn't (in the films, not fan works -- I've read some well done fics of the pairing).
I don't really see why it's immature to be honest. If I were name calling other people, sure. But I'm contrasting why I think Kirk and Spock work while Uhura and Spock don't. Because I think this really highlights the differences.
If people want to disagree, they can of course. But I think I'm within my rights to respond as well.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 09:48 am (UTC)(link)Imma let you finish here, but OP didn't even mention Spock/Uhura. They might hate them, for what you know.
No one was making it a shipper war between s/u and k/s before you started to bash them to defend your ship.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)Spock and Kirk are an example of a relationship heavily reliant on TOS.
Spock and Uhura are an example of a relationship that is based solely in the reboot.
OP's contested that K/S was bad, in part, because it relied on TOS. I pointed out that I don't agree precisely because the reboot writers are incompetent at handling anything on their own without the support of TOS. Spock/Uhura is the best example for this (I can hardly use Kirk/McCoy since their relationship is also based strongly on TOS in the new films).
I'm sorry you're upset, but I don't see why my opinion bothers you so much. I agree that the OP is allowed his/her opinion. But so am I, right? And I am simply stating why I disagree and contrasting Kirk and Spock's relationship to Spock and Uhura's relationship to highlight my reasoning.
