Some of that was unavoidable from a narrative perspective, I think, given the culture war aspect of the books. Slytherin's the house of the old guard, so the loudest voices are going to be the Isolationists and the Pureblood Superiority crowd.

And the nature of the conflict, with its blood purity angle, means a certain kind of Slytherin is most apt to go along with it. Voldemort's ideas included an amplification of stuff that was already in Slytherin. Of course they were over-represented among his followers.
