Why, though? If you like MCU, why not try even a single episode? And if you just don't like it, why pretend you do? I'm sure you're not the only MCU fan who dislikes AoS.

Yeah, I dislike AoS but love MCU, OP!

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It isn't dislike. I simply haven't gotten around to watching it, and every time I think about it something else seems more interesting. And I pretend because I have friends who are active in the fandom, and I find the idea of the characters and plots interesting and like talking about them. I just haven't gotten around to watching it.

Right - if you still want to watch it, doesn't it bother you you'll basically know the whole plot without actually watching it.

Nope. Spoilers don't ruin my enjoyment. I actually always hunt for spoilers before I watch something.

On the plus side, this probably means you could cherry pick the show and only watch the best episodes. Which, as you probably already know, is mainly the second half.

I stopped watching SPN like 3 seasons ago but keep up to date on what is going on because one of my friends still watches it. And I was the one who got him into it so I feel bad abandoning it while he still watches.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
isn't it harder to consistently pretend to be into a show than to actually watch it, then participate based on your real opinions?

Not OP

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Not he MCU, but I'm in a fandom for something which I like the concepts behind, but loathe the actual actors and writers executing those concept. Instead of torturing my eyes and eardrums, I simply spend two minutes on spoiler sites to get the episode info and I'm good to go. If I get a detail wrong, or there is something the spoiler site doesn't have on it then I simply say "huh, never got that vibe" or, "damn, how did I forget that" and simply move on. No one has rumbled me yet.

Teen Wolf season 4... argh. There were times I was tempted to just get by on photo recaps because it went off the rails so badly. (As a natural progression, you don't see season 1 and expect it to bring you to what you got in season 4.)

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah pretty much everyone is only pretending to like it.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It's true. Everyone who likes something that I dislike is just pretending. Obviously.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Going on the attack with obvious sarcasm is generally a good way of telling if someone has been caught out doing something, just saying. Classic tell.

A bit off-topic, but I recently finished the first season of AoS. I originally quit after the seventh episode or so, because even though the show got a lot better than the hot mess that was the pilot and the first few episodes, the badness lingered in my mind.

After seeing a lot of people say that it became good later on I went back and holy shit, the show actually become good! Even having been spoiled about everything it was still great and quite addictive to watch. Suddenly AoS was everything that I originally hoped it would be. How awesome is that?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
+1

This was me too.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-10 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Same here, though I quit much earlier than that. It's still got some flaws, but I'm genuinely a fan now. It's one of the shows I look forward to the most each week.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I've noticed that AoS only has good episodes when they start them with a song. If they started the series with the Don't Fear The Reaper episode, then it wouldn't have taken half the flack it has. Same with Season 2's Hermione gets up early in the morning episode. If that had been the season opener then it would have had a much stronger S2 start.

You're a pathetic human being and a sheep.

How about having some personality?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yawn

This isn't about if you are a true MCU fan, or if you can fake it till you make it.
It's about being a little too neurotic. You can be more than enthusiastic about other people's tastes without having to lie about having watched / experienced what they apparently adore. They won't drop you if you haven't watched x number of hours of a TV program.

They might get a little more picky about their company if they discover they've been lied to. Especially about small, petty things that most people wouldn't tell white lies about.

I'm a big MCU fan, but I've only seen one episode*.

*oh and the like two minutes Peggy Carter was in it in S2E01

I was thinking about catching up, but then I found out that Coulson became the director of SHIELD and noped the hell out of there.
