Because het shippers never insist on ships being canon. It's clearly just a slash thing!

Is it sad that my first thought was Zutara?

LOL -- although I knew a lot of them that were chill and made great art and fic

But some of them were just REALLY overzealous

I remember Bryke trolling the heck out of them, though.

They're annoying in a different way. But at least those ships aren't treated as brownie points or shit like that. I've had awful experiences with some of the slash shippers who insist on pairings being canon (see: Sherlock, and you don't have to even say anything, they say enough for you).

A lot of the slash shippers who claim a slash ship is canon despite it not being so usually then screech about how homophobic you are if you don't ship it, and how PROGRESSIVE!!!! it is for gay rights.

Ugh they're still doing that? I thought that was a thing in the early to late 2000s and they had mostly moved on to trans and POC things for brownie points.

Nope. They just added trans and POC rights to the mix. :/

I just want to say I'm sorry that shippers do that to you. But also that reading this comment validated my experience of being called homophobic for not shipping a slash darling-pairing in my fandom.
