Small Tasks that Take Forever

(Anonymous) 2014-11-10 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Today, I had to write a quick statement to explain WHY I'm applying for a scholarship (apparently: "i haz thesis ideaz, i can haz moniez!? wouldn't have cut it). The thing was only supposed to be 1 double spaced page. So, really, it shouldn't have taken more than an hour, at most. It took me all freaking DAY. Even when adjusting for added difficulty: German language, that's a ridiculous amount of time.

What stupid tasks have taken up all your time?

I know the feeling >.< And then you're angry with yourself 'cause you've spent so much time on this one stupid thing that wasn't even worth a whole day of work.

This actually happens with everything I'm not particularly eager to do. The only redeeming factor is that to procrastinate on these tasks, I resort to doing other, more interesting stuff, and thus end up accomplishing a lot - even if it's a lot of the wrong thing.

Well, I wish you luck with the scholarship.

Everything manual. I honestly think there's something wrong with my motor skills - because things like cleaning up take me like 5 times longer than regular people.

Hand-washing dishes. It's not the big pots and pans and shit, it's all the little dessert dishes and sandwich plates and utensils and small stuff that has to be washed individually that drives me crazy.

Cover letters and other job application paraphernalia. It shouldn't take me hours to say "I have been doing this kind of work for a million years and I am better at it than I ever had any desire to be; give me the damn job."

Setting up detail sheets for intersections. Not making the sheets or designing the intersections, but just setting up the sheets themselves (border, tables, proper labels, etc.) I was at work for 6 hours today and only got 10 of them done. :/

Writing an annotated bibliography. Summarising thibfs I've read and what i got of them, but in a different way than in my essay? Just no. These last 500 words are killing me.

Doing anything in Excel takes forever for me.
