It just sounds like it's not your cup of tea, really... Not liking it because it's too depressing seems like a very personal preference. I've seen a few people respond with some legitimate criticism; the pacing is awkward, the plot is all over the place, the political arc was way too slow... But saying it's awful because it's dark makes it sound like you're upset over people liking a story convention that you don't.

I personally, loved the tension that came each month worrying over the fate of the characters. Now that Isayama has saved most of the main cast from situations that came across as certain death too many times, my interest has waned. Jean should be dead, Erwin should be dead, Annie should be dead, Sasha was supposed to die and then apparently his editor convinced him not to do it.

What still keeps me coming back is my attachment to a few of the characters and the lack of typical anime fan service.
