To be honest, some comments left on fics are so disheartening that not having any comments would be preferable.

If I get a fic comment that's both polite and actually seems to have read my fic, I almost jump up and downdown with happiness. Sadly, these comments can be a minority.

More common is "OMG hot when x does y to z" when they weren't even doing that in my fic.

Actually, that seems to be my number one type of comment received. I reply politely but it makes me sad. I tell myself that they're ESL and I should be impressed that they understood what they did.

I guess I find this hard to understand because I personally don't find that type of comment to be disheartening. They aren't as ego-boosting as those rare comments where someone spends five paragraphs jerking it to my writing, but few things are. Certainly I don't find "omg hot" comments so disheartening and saddening that I'd rather get no comments at all.
