Healthy validation (as in the kind that helps your mental well-being) doesn't rely on strangers on the internet clicking kudos buttons. Healthy validation comes from you. So while not douchey, seeking this kind of external validation doesn't help your self esteem. It basically reinforces the idea that other people dictate your value, when in fact YOU do.

As someone with a lifelong cornucopia of esteem and anxiety problems, please believe me, if you are getting this upset about not getting comments on fic then you need to talk to someone about the core roots of your feelings. Because if you try to sublimate it or temporarily solve it with things like popular fanfics online then you're on incredibly shaky ground.

I understand it's unhealthy and I've been see therapists off and on for 13 years about this. But these comments villifying the author or anyone who wants to do what she does was upsetting me, so...
