I don't think I'd noticed that. But "Ana" is both a really common name and a really common series of sounds in other names.

Well, Moana means Ocean and is Polynesian. Which I expect is the reason they use it. Anna and Tiana fit with the time period/location as well (iirc). Also, three isn't exactly a pattern. You also have Emma and Rapunzel and Merida.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-11 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Tiana doesn't fit the time period at all, at least not for a movie set in New Orleans... or anywhere in America.

This honestly smells like a desperate attempt to find a reason to hate Disney.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-11-11 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
I love Disney. I just don't love their obsession with -ana names.

They should retroactively change all their names to rhyme with "ana."

Snowanna
Cinderana
Aeriana
Pochahontanna

(Anonymous) 2014-11-11 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Aurana
Jasmana
Mulana
Bellanna
Rapunzanna
Um... Nalanna?

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2014-11-11 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Banana ana snowana cinderana aerana tiana....

(Anonymous) 2014-11-12 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Princess Angelina Contessa Louisa Francesca Banana Fanna Bo Besca the Third

What? Is Moana movie confirmed?!
And everything is so green on the bottom image... It looks stylized, like in Pochahontas.

Yeah - November (I think 17th? Or 26th?) 2016.

To be fair, while Anna is not pronounced like EHHHna (look that's the closest example I have) and she and Tiana do share that sound - the exact way - Moana is kind of that EHHHna sound so it's not...too similar.

i always forget elsa's sister's name is anna, which is odd because it also happens to be my name.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-11 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
-ana is a really common sound in names, and people tend to think it sounds really pretty and feminine, which is probably why it's gotten picked a few times recently.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-11 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'd never noticed the "Ana" thing, but this reminds me of Indian girls' names - "Priya" is both a really common name and a common shortening of a name. I'm sure it's true for many languages.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-11 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Well Moana is still likely to change.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-11 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Well, to me Anna doesn't really fit with the others. I know in many languages it's AH-na, but I've always heard people saying the character's name ANN-a, which is how it's usually pronounced in English. Whereas I would assumed Tiana and Moana are tee-AH-na and mo-AH-na.

Anyway, there are sooooo many 'anna' and 'ana' names I can think of...

Adriana
Alana
Alanna
Anastasia
Anna
Annabel
Ariana
Arianna
Brianna
Deanna
Diana
Emiliana
Evanna
Floriana
Hana
Hanna/Hannah
Jana
Joanna
Juliana
Lana
Leanna/Lianna
Liliana
Luciana
Mariana
Marianna
Nana
Nanna
Rosana
Rosanna
Roxana
Shoshana
Silvana
Susanna/Susannah
Svetlana
Tatiana
Viviana

Did I forget any?

I really think that this is probably coincidence.

I say troll

Because this is such a pointless issue to complain about.

Damn, never noticed that and now cannot unsee. If I'd read a fanfic with that pattern of naming, I'd be offering concrit to the author that their names were becoming a bit generic sounding. Need to get away from the "ana" suffix.

Remember CinderELLa, AriEL, BELLE? This is nothing new.

Frozen names for Hans Christian Anderson

(Anonymous) 2014-11-11 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there was a reason Anna was used in Frozen - four names were a nod to Hans Christian Andersen.

Hans
Kristoff
Anna
Sven

This was one of the points the person who tried sueing Disney brought up as stealing her life story - she had boyfriends named Hans and Kristoff. But Disney had posted their reasoning for picking those names. :/
