Please, no. I'm fine with Fantine and Valjean, but don't talk to me about Enjonine. The overwhelming majority of fics pair them together, with no basis other than "they're both hot and single", and usually make them completely OOC, often throwing them into random unfitting AU scenarios just to make it "work". It's the Zutara of Les Mis.

I happen to think Zutara has chemistry in canon. (Can't speak to Les Mis, as I have never seen the movie.) /shrug

I think so too, but only after a certain point. They barely even interacted until the Book 2 finale. People were die-hard shipping them long before that.

oh, I didn't really ship them before their major interactions. I wasn't in the fandom either so...that's interesting.

I ship Valjean/Fantine too anon! (Kinda in a weird almost-platonic-but-not-quite kinda way, but I do.)

I have never seen the kind of ire for that pairing that E/É inspired, so I think you would be okay? At least Fantine and Valjean do have a basis for a relationship in canon, where Enjonine is pretty much a crackship imo.

Is it Tam Mutu and Rauch(sp)? Is it, is it? \o/ It's one of those pairings that I ship but don't seek out fic for it outside of a few popular works on AO3.
Eponine and Enjolras? Never even heard about this ship. Everybody pairs Enjolras and Grantaire. Eponine was kinda obsessed with Marius so this ship feels like "she needs to turn a new leaf; let's give her the hot guy".

Philip Quast & Colm Wilkinson, Tenth Anniversary concert. Colm was the original Valjean in the West End and on Broadway, everyone loves Quast:)

Enjonine isn't the redheaded stepchild because it's het, but because it 1) makes no sense and 2) breaks up a canonical (if mostly one-sided) gay (or at least homoromantic) relationship

I ship Valvert harder than anyone I know, but damn if Valjean/Fantine isn't great too. I agree with you about the movie anyway. Maybe it's my bias against Crowe!Javert, but yeah, movie Valjean/Fantine had way more chemistry than Valvert.

As for Enjolras/Eponine, that sucks if the fandom is giving the shippers undue shit, but...at least Valjean/Fantine has basis in canon. E/E is pretty much, "Welp Eponine should be paired off with SOMEONE, and if it's not Marius..."
