I wash bath rugs regularly, so unless there's something preventing you doing that (material etc.) then it should be okay. Check if there's a label or some kind of cleaning advice though, in case.

In my experience, even if you wash or sponge the top pile of carpet there's still some left behind in the base matting, so if throwing in a washer isn't feasible you can also soak just the affected area. If it's more dried in by now, it might be tougher to shift though.
