They are kind of paired up in the game, off having adventures together. I ship them in a kid friendship kind of way, and I never thought I would. Maya does seem more childish in that game than she usually is. They were a fun pair.

I more relieved that there wasn't a big explosion of Phoenix/Layton after that game. I can ship Phoenix with anyone, but Layton is off bounds in my head, apart from his canon relationships.
