Oh my god, it's set in Wyoming? /lives in Wyoming and has her entire life

I wonder how many things are actually based in real-life Wyoming, and how many are based on Wyoming stereotypes. Please count the cowboys for me, OP.

In regards to envying people who can draw, the answer is the same as how do you get to Carnegie Hall?

I know how you feel. I write - but it's true, sometimes a picture tells a thousand words. It frustrates me I can't express the worlds in my head through drawing.

Learn how to draw.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-12 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
As if it's that simple. ::eye roll::

(Anonymous) 2014-11-12 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
It might not be simple, but doing something about it's better than passive wishful whining.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-12 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Woah, you give amazing advice. *sarcasm*

(Anonymous) 2014-11-12 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
people are rolling their eyes at this suggestion but that's... what you do. it's not like those of us who are artists were born with magical hands, (or worse, the nebulous distinction of "talent") it takes hard work and development of skill. if you want to draw, start drawing.

Yep. I spent most of my life not being able to draw, then I worked and practiced endlessly and got better, then I stopped working and practicing and lost most of it. It's not something you're born with, it's something you have to learn and practice.

who still uses the word "lemon" to describe a sex scene? I haven't seen that one in a while

I was excited when I saw 'The Last of Us', but 'Joel/Ellie' is a massive no no even for me. Ellie/Riley I would totally read, though. Thanks for reminding me I should look for some.

And yea, I wish I could draw. (Should've never stopped drawing. All that progress, goneeeeeee.)
Or write. Or anything creative. :(

Yeah, I saw that too and immediately cringed.

Everyone's different, but I have a difficult time shipping anyone (at least in a sexual manner. I can do romance) too young if they look and act their age. 16 or 17 years old in a teen drama where the actors are clearly older than the characters they play? I'm fine with that, but 14 is super young, Ellie acts super young (even though she's been forced to mature in a way she never should have had to), and DWN smut about that.

Plus, the relationship between Joel and Ellie is such a strong, beautiful parental one that I just can't. (And I've shipped incest pairings before, but not this... I can't imagine their relationship any other way than it is in canon, and I don't want to. The parallels between Joel's own daughter and Ellie complicate that even further.)

I wonder if the fic in question explores how fucked up that romance would be. I won't read to check, but I am curious. I'm sure the taboo factor is part of the appeal for people. (I know it has been for me, with other pairings.)

OP

I get where you're coming from completely. The majority of Joel/Ellie fics I've read are on the icky side but this fic is so incredibly fleshed out and so beautifully written that the author addresses any concerns the reader might have, mainly because he does explore how fucked up it would be. From Joel's POV in particular for obvious reasons.

By the time you get to the point where the story is at now, you just want them to get it on already, believe me.

I was with you till the last sentence! lol! I still don't want to read it, but I can see where you're coming from and why you might be attracted to it if the author is so good at addressing the issues with their relationship. A good writer can convince you of a lot of things you might not otherwise be into or okay with.

It's never too late to start if you're willing to put in the effort! It's possible to get decent in about a year's time.
