I agree, and I say this as someone who has done wayyyyy more console gaming than PC gaming. PC games are a good place to start since there's such a massive backlog. If you have a decent PC you'll be able to play a ton of older games, possibly newer ones too, and you can always upgrade if you want. (Though of course, that's expensive.)

The thing about consoles is that they aren't backwards compatible these days. :(

There are plenty of newer games for modest hardware because PC/portable synergy is a big growth market.

That makes sense; most people own a PC even if they don't use it for gaming. It's good business to have a low threshold so that people who might not normally play a game (or who don't have the cash to upgrade or buy a new computer) have the option.

True, and a big market for gaming right now is, "what can I put on my phone/tablet to keep my kid entertained on that long drive."

God, yea, my brother has a billion games on his iPad to entertain his kids. I'm sure most parents do the same in this day and age.

Of course PC gaming is different since it isn't on the go, but I don't doubt that kids brought up gaming on phones and tablets might move on to PC's eventually. It's a start.
