Maybe fandom doesn't care about commentary on real-life events as pertaining to the fictional universes of their fandoms, because the things they are fanning are NOT real-life events. Starfleet doesn't exist. Neither do Cardassians.

Sadly, the Kardashians do exist, but I come here to escape from them.

Star Trek is a commentary on real life events though soooo I'm not sure where that leaves us.
