To me it got boring shortly after they got together - I don't ant to say because of it, but to me it's the "Bones" effect. I feel it becomes more about the relationship than about the cases.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that was the "Moonlighting" effect before. And "Castle" has many other things in common with "Moonlighting."

OP

I agree. At first when they got together I thought they had escaped the curse. The writing was good and the banter was still there. But the writing has really been going downhill and the banter and chemistry is no longer there.

I feel the same, like the episodes that don't focus too much on their relationship are fine but the ones that do bore me to tears. It probably doesn't help that I don't really care about Kate/Castle anyway.

I don't hate them together, I'm just completely indifferent. It's not what I got into the series for, so if that's going to take focus I'll naturally lose interest.

NA

Their getting together actually revitalized my interest in the show, despite the fact that I don't ship them. The will-they-won't-they dance they'd been doing previously was really starting to grate. Now that that's over, I feel like I can better focus on the cases, father-daughter and mother-daughter relationships, and friendships that are my favorite parts of the show.

Maybe it's because of the dumbass cliffhanger.

You could practically see the Fonz warming up his motorcycle next to the tank.

Not OP, but I was fine with the cliffhanger. I haven't been so thrilled with the resolution of said cliffhanger however. I can't believe they set all that up and then just...dropped it.

I like the show still, but it's not as 'must watch' as it used to be. Planning on letting go after this season, if it does get renewed. I think now's a good time to 'close the book'. 7 years is a fantastic run.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Me too (well the first part of the secret). I never got bored of it. Something about Castle is just so charming and interesting to me, who always goes on about how much I hate cop shows/mystery of the week shows.

Castle is just different to me. I'm charmed by all the characters, their dynamics, and almost every episode. Yeah, there are some flubs but I watch them all anyway and to me, each case/episode is interesting and just good to me. I don't know what it is!

Yeah, not claiming objective quality, just my personal opinion.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
I'm still charmed by it, too. Most of the cases aren't very interesting anymore and the show really used to be better, but I still like the characters enough to keep watching. It's an instant happiness show.

I gave up a few episodes into last season (when Alexis was living with Pi and Castle had to apologize to her for being rude when visiting their apartment... because the dude who moved into *your* apartment without an invitation and steamrolled your family dinners and time with your fiance deserves SO much respect. Anyway...), I think the bad writing started before Castle and Beckett got together. I thought it was floundering since late Season 3. In retrospect that finale jumped the shark (forever bitter Montgomery got killed off). I seriously thought about quitting during the Season 4 because it was so aimless. Season 5 did better, I thought, though sometimes I remember that episode about Bigfoot Hunters.

Alas, I feel bad because the first two seasons were my favorite of almost any other TV show. I stanned so hard for my friends to watch "Castle" with me (and they did!), but now I'm vaguely sad about what it became.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Extremely similar experience to mine - started getting exasperated with it after season three, but hung around until I realized fifteen minutes into the season six opener that I just didn't care anymore. From the sound of it, not a decision to be regretted - but I really loved just about everything in those first seasons.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Is it because you finally got over Firefly and now see all the flaws laid bare?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not bored yet, but I have been getting more annoyed with this season with the sudden uncertainty between Castle and Beckett and with the writers seemingly forgetting the relationship between Castle and Alexis (the idea that any of them believe that he would run away and let anyone, ESPECIALLY HIS MOTHER AND DAUGHTER, think he was kidnapped because he had cold feet, was the STUPIDEST THING EVER (for this show).

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't quit shows"

I will never understand this philosophy, though I understand it's quite common. I can barely bring myself to watch the shows I only just like, never mind the ones I actively don't. Who has energy to waste on something that doesn't bring them maximum pleasure for time spent on it?

[personal profile] queerwolf 2014-11-13 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
I don't understand it either. If I made myself watch shows I don't like anymore just because I used to like them, I'd be miserable.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
For real, maybe I get it if you're attached to the characters, but if you're not having fun what's the point.

[personal profile] nightscale 2014-11-13 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I'm almost the same. I enjoyed Castle a lot more in the earlier seasons and while I don't find season 5 to be completely awful I don't enjoy it as much as I used to. But I still enjoy it on some level so until that goes away I'll keep watching.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I sadly agree, and you could justifiably blame the moonlighting effect, but it's more than that; it's like writers get lazy after they resolve the UST, which makes no sense in a show that had a pretty good mythology besides the romantic angle.

It has gotten sillier and more pandering, and the first 3 episodes of the "Castle abduction mystery" were so lame compared to the level of suspense and cleverness we have seen in the past, that it feels more like burnout.

It used to be one of my favorite shows but I haven't watched it at all this season. Doesn't help that reruns made me start to not like Kate.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I had some hopes for the recent AU episode, but then it unredeemed itself by not seizing the opportunity to pair off Ryan/Esposito. I mean - why not go for it, writers? It's supposed to be AU!!!!!

I'm just really tired of all the obstacles thrown in the way of the Caskett endgame. I'm sure someone out there probably thinks finally getting them married means the end of the show, but I don't think it has to be that way. As long as they have fun cases to work on (and hell, I don't even mind 3XK and Spy Daddy, as long as we don't have the Mombatross anymore), the show can keep going.

But all the reasons Beckett and Castle can't be together, have to keep their relationship a secret, can't get married, won't get married any time soon is soooooooo tiresome.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's different live, but these two have, like, anti-chemistry in photos. In this one, he looks likes he's either going to start shaking her or shove her into a wall and she looks like she's plotting his death.
