He isn't the most popular in fandom. And honestly, I don't think he is that popular to the audience at large. But for some reason Fox thinks he is.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
he IS the most popular in general though. Always has been, always will be.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
No, he really is pretty popular. Wolverine used to win a lot of the character polls, back in the comic-exclusive days, and he's been pretty well received in movies too. He got his own series and everything, and look, he even has a trope based on his popularity!

He's a hypocritical asshole in the comics.

Dead hyppcritical asshole now.

I love Wolverine. He's always been one of my favourite characters.

That being said? They're overusing him. X-Men was always an ensemble titl. It's frustrating to see the same characters rehashed and retconned over and over while so many cool one haven't even been on screen yet.

I don't mind him in the movies, but I don't really like him in the comics. At all.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
I love Wolverine. Probably because of Hugh Jackman. I don't think I would like the comics version so much.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
My sister LOVES wolverine, and loves Hugh Jackman even more. I disliked him to start with, her love makes me start to dislike him more and more every time he's on screen.
I liked first class, then they spoiled it by linking it to the other x-movies. So I lost interest.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I liked him well enough in the first movie, and I don't HATE him now, but oh my God, is he ever overused.

Right there with ya. Ugh.

I don't have a problem with movie!Wolverine, but I do think he's more enjoyable when part of a larger cast. I thought DOFP was surpringly well balanced and loved his interactions with Charles, Erik, Hank, etc. As long as he doesn't become the focus again in future installments, I don't mind him being included.

Agree. I like him much better as part of an ensemble. I haven't even watched the second Wolverine movie.
elaminator: (X-Men: DOFP - Blink)

[personal profile] elaminator 2014-11-13 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Me either. I thought about it, but then decided I didn't care enough to give it a shot. I like him in DOFP, but he isn't someone I want on the screen during every scene. (No matter how attractive Hugh Jackman is.)

It's pretty good though. But with DoFP, they KIND of wiped it away.....:C

I do like Wolverine, but not when he's shoved into and takes over every single X-Men film. That being said I found him alright in DoFP but I do not need yet another Wolverine stand alone film(which we're getting anyway because apparently we do).

I like comic!Wolverine, movie!Wolverine bores me... so, yeah, I completely agree with you.

[personal profile] solticisekf 2014-11-13 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Are these muscles for real? *__* You've reminded me that I need to see it.
I bought a comic after the first Xmen because I liked Wolverine. He has a backstory that he was experimented on that I found interesting. (And the only other comic I have is a few Spider Man issues. I'm more of a manga reader.)

I liked Wolverine best in the animated series. Comics Wolvie is... kind of like comics Batman, now that I think about it. He can be an excellent character, and likeable in spite of himself, when he's written well, but he suffers greatly as a character when the writers start believing their own hype.

I always thought that Hugh!verine was kind of generic, but I liked him in the first movie. He's just not a strong enough character to be the break-out character they're forcing him to be. I feel like he's being shoved in our faces like, "See? It's Wolverine! You love Wolverine! Don't you want more Wolverine? He's got cake!" Except there is no cake, and he's not that awesome, and it's just kind of awkward.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
I feel the same way, though I managed to like the first two X-Men movies in spite of him. But man, the more they try to shove him in my face, the more I hate him. Especially that first godforsaken standalone Wolverine movie. I have no idea why I saw it (I went with my brother, who also hates Wolverine), but boy did I regret it afterward (and during). I'm not that well-versed in X-Men, and even I know there are way more interesting characters they could be focusing on.
