What have they said about the prequels?

I think this might have something to do with Simon Pegg bashing the PT and having some sort of role in Ep 7.

Honestly, Simon Pegg's bashing of the PT (and George Lucas as well) is one of the reasons I've never been able to warm up to the guy.

Lucas was incredibly kind to him -- included his short on the Blu-Ray and gave him a role in The Clone Wars -- and while I respect that Pegg (like many other people) has a right to dislike the prequels, he comes across as really immature and ungrateful with some of the things he's said.

Well, hating the prequel might just mean they're going to do something different - not, you know, retcon them. I'm pretty sure they'll still be canon. It's the EU you should be worried about.

Honestly, I love the prequels (they're my favorite parts of Stars Wars as a whole) but if I don't like Episode VII, I just won't include it into my personal canon. That's it. I'm not a fan of the EU already, so I just ignore it.

I'm preparing myself to be REALLY disappointed in the sequels (I hate JJ Abrams, so that's already a huge warning flag). And if that does end up being the case, I think I'll probably consider myself more of a "George Lucas Star Wars" fan than a general Star Wars fan since the only things I really love are Episodes I through VI.

I sort of agree? I'm not quite as big a SW fan as you seem to be, I'm not into the EU for one, but I didn't get the extent of the hate for the PT either.

Except for some stilted dialogue and acting Ep3 was pretty great. Obi-Wan, Windu, Yoda, Palpatine, Dooku were all brilliant throughout the PT. Padme was cool when she wasn't being Anakin's love-interest. I quite liked Shmi and her family.

So yeah, while there are some things about the PT I didn't like, I don't want them to just forget it or play it for laughs either. Also, because for some people those movies would have been their introduction to SW.

Sorry about the EU though, I think I heard they said it wasn't canon.

I'm an OT girl, they're my canon. I don't think about the PT as canon because I didn't like enough about them. If it turns out 7 stinks for me, I'll disregard it as well. Easy Peasy.

The EU is already confirmed kaput. They'll continue to print them, though, and they're under "Star Wars legends". I won't lie and say I was sorry to see it go.

I get you, though, anon. I worry about Episode VII a LOT (largely because of JJ Abrams).

But hopefully what they dislike about the prequels is stuff that's more of maybe aesthetic choices and some dialogue issues.

I highly doubt they're going to do anything to retcon the PT. And honestly, I don't want them to because there are some good moments in there. I actually think all three movies are at least average as far as quality goes, they just don't live up to the OT (well, I think Revenge of the Sith does ... quality-wise I would say it's equal to A New Hope).

I'm sad they threw out the entire EU, though I'm going to continue to consider anything that isn't outright contradicted as still being in canon.

Even Obi-Wan ignores the stupid parts of canon, which is why he never mentions midichlorians when he's explaining the Force to Luke.

I feel you OP. I love all Star Wars stuff and I'm worried about where Episode 7 is going, if I'll like it etc. I'd never thought about them hating the PT but it is confirmed Star Wars canon so they'll have to go with it. Maybe they just won't mention anything from it.

But!!! I am also excited. So I guess just try to be excited too....?

Same. In fact, I will probably skip it if it came out tomorrow. Idk. I just don't know how I feel about a Disney version of SW that won't respect all of the films George made.
