Guessing from the pic I may know what series this is, and if so: I'm glad it's not just me! I can't even entirely put my finger on what bugs me about the end -- maybe the fact that the 'real' hero of the story got switched on us? or that the author's desire to shift into semi-original fiction started showing through too much?

From your description it sounds like you've guessed right. It was the switching of the hero that really bugged me the most. It felt very last minute and also particularly wrong considering the universe in question.

And yes, the image I chose is a clue.

Ah, yeah, then. That was a real let down, after such a long, really good emotional build. I haven't even tried to reread the earlier stuff yet. Still processing.

Ahaha I was so wrong. My guess was Balto (main character a wolf/dog, and the font looked kind of animation-ish).

Fine. It is the Dangerverse, and AU Harry Potter series. The first couple of fics are still the best AU I've come across for that universe. The ending...not so much.

Anon who recognized seconds the rec. Up until the very last fic and towards the end of that, it's one of the best HP fics going.

The Dangerverse! Wow. It's a huge series and I've never really gotten to finish it. I stopped around the time Snape Cruciated Harry and then somehow didn't quite get caught or called on it.

I followed this fanfic series for a hell of a long time, and it was one of the first long fic series I read on FF.net. I'm disappointed to know that such an amazing series fell so flat :(
