It can go either way, depending on the character and what aspect people tend to fetishize about them. Like (fake example that probably exists)

-Loki is secretly a female Jotun, which explains why she's so delicate and graceful and so obsessed with fitting in. But mostly in fic this is a vehicle to get Loki knocked up and wearing pretty dresses and acting catty towards the ladies of court.

I forget the title, but I saw a decent "Jotun don't distinguish between male and female, and Loki was intended to be Thor's bride" fic once. I remember it was on AO3, it was OT3, and it was rated Explicit. (I found it through TV Tropes, but I think they purged all their recs for fics that weren't worksafe.)

So who was the 3 in that?

I've never actually watched Thor, so I don't remember the character. From how she was described, I think she was Thor's canon love interest, or at least something close.

No, she had a normal-sounding human name, and Loki referred to her as a "mortal."

(I'm trying to avoid saying "Jane" or "Darcy" because I don't remember who either of those are, so I can't be certain which it was. She had the same speech patterns as the girl Thor dates in American Captain, so it was probably the same girl.)

That would likely be Jane then.

Jane more than likely.

Of course in the case of Loki... in both myth and comics Loki often takes female form...

And did get knocked up a couple times in myth... so yeah.

I hate it when people say that because they usually use this as an excuse not to tag for trans/intersex / mpreg Loki and/or pretend it's canon in MCU/the comics and that's very annoying.

I thought the new Loki comic series specifically was casting the character as somewhat non-binary (but I haven't read that, just got it from an interview).
