also, maybe you would not hate Japan so much if you did not go there with false pretenses and instead got an idea of what the place was like before you went there, you experience would not have been so bad.

Fandom was only 20% to half the reason I went. Prior to coming to Japan I was an East Asian Studies major, focusing on Japanese culture. Which meant that up until this year, all I studied in college was Japanese culture.

Three years of officially studying Japan and about six of doing it on my own time did not prepare me for what I encountered when I got here.

I totally hear you, man. I was going to stay with an Australian family for six months on an exchange program, and I was told that Australians are super forthcoming and honest and it's all sunshine and lollipops and they're so *multicultural* and UNDERSTANDING. I read up on the town and state I was in, as well as Australian values, customs, and ettiquette for six months before hand. It wasn't much time, but it was all the time I had. Nothing- fucking NOTHING prepared me for the crazy bitch I was put with or the fucking Australian bogan rednecks I was surrounded by.

I do NOT blame you for hating your host country, y'all. Although sushi is the food of the gods, sry2say.
