Ahahahahahah yeah, if I ever go to Japan the shear amount of PEOPLE is going to freak me the fuck out. I live in Canada, and:

I live in Sweden. We have 21,9 inhabitants per square kilometre. My first visit to Tokyo (and Japan) was a bit overwhelming...

I loved it though. I haven't lived there for an extended amount of time, but I had a very different experience from the 47 OP. People were always very kind and mild-mannered, I was always treated with respect, and, just like with any other country, I could be as fannish as I liked with friends and other people who shared my interests.

Also, when walking around the central parts of Tokyo, seeing fans of the EGL style and such wasn't unusual or given any special attention by the "normal" Japanese.

I had some unpleasant experiences too, but nothing extreme. Every country has its problems.
