My friend is getting kicked out of her apartment for covering up a smoke detector. So she doesn't know where she's going to live for the rest of the semester. So of course she's freaking out.

And I want to be comforting.

But I also want to scold her. Smoking that much has already messed with her voice (she's studying music) and she knows it.

But I'm afraid I'm being unfair. Maybe the mix of drugs she's taking works for her even if it's not normal.

Or maybe she really needs to stop.

Maybe you could scold and comfort her? At least then you'll have all the bases covered. But comfort first, probably. When she's calmed down and has a place to go, then you can say wtf possessed you.

I don't think you're being unfair. If she wants to smoke then that's her choice, even if it's a shitty one. But why in God's name would should not at least smoke outside instead of covering up her smoke detector like a twit?

I hope she's got a backup plan, or a friend's place for emergencies like that. Maintaininger her studies while being displaced is going to be hell :(
But she still has to grow up. She's probably responsible in other areas of course, you know her better than this comm, but this is also a hard kick to learn to take some accountability for choices not worth making. Especially one that should be obvious (ie: smoke outside!).

You worry about her enough to question whether to openly disapprove though. That's already better than nothing imo.
