In the Flesh

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
All the stuff I've seen about In the Flesh looks pretty interesting to me so I'm thinking about giving it a try but I'm a bit worried about the creepininess-level because I'm a bit of a whimp about suspense (it was the reason why I stopped watching Hannibal; I'm cool about murder and cannibalism, but I couldn't handle the level of suspense).
Is there a lot of that on In The Flesh or is it more about the plot?

There's not much suspense, imo. It can be tense at moments for sure, but not so much in a “But what's going to happen?!” way. (I would go as far as to say most of what happens isn't even terribly surprising, but everything is so well done that you won't care. Or at least I didn't.)

The story, the characters, the perfect presentation... I found those were much more important to the series than anything else. There isn't much creepiness at all tbh, especially not for a “zombie” show. It's dark, and not an easy watch, but it's pretty far from Hannibal. The anticipation doesn't feel the same.

Ah, that's good then! I like dark and the plot and characters sound like something I'd like to watch, so I'll definitely give it a try!
Thanks!

There is some suspenseful buildup mainly in season 2, but not about creepy things the way Hannibal does, I suspect.

Well, that sounds like I should give it a try! Thanks!

Not really no, there are a few moments where it edges into the creepy/suspense territory but tbh they're not really done in a way where it's trying to creep you out(I'm wigged out by zombies myself and I was fine watching it), it's for the plot more than anything. There are certainly some tense moments though, and it's not the happiest of shows but I think that's it's worth the watch.

That sounds good, I just hate being at the edge of my seat all the time. Unhappy is right down my lane, and a bit of tension is alright as well, so I think I'll watch it! Thanks!

I would say it was low on suspense, but I watched the first series based on interesting posts about the second and absolutely fell apart, more so than I have over any show in years. Far heavier in emotions and family drama than I realised, more gore than horror.
