Now I feel bad for throwing out the last piece of a chocolate cake I made a week ago. Held it in my hand, took a couple manly bites, shrugged, and decided that was all I needed.

Eh, no need to feel bad about that.

People place waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much emphasis on wasting food. They forget that if you eat food for the sake of not wasting it, then you've still wasted it because you didn't want it (or all of it), only now you're gonna get fat on top of it.

Next time, sure, take only what you think you're gonna eat. But last piece of a whole chocolate cake? It's had its run, it's been enjoyed enough by that point.
