It makes me lol because feminists are always all about "be open about your desires"
and it turns out a lot of women's desire is "I want to be raped in a pleasurable way by a magnificent bastard."

The irony, lel

Back in my day it was called wanting to be ravished.

A lot of men have the same desire, though (slightly more, in fact). So why "lel"?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Because feminists don't make a fuss about men wanting to be ravished or overpowered by the opposite sex.

"I want to be raped" is a paradox. It's not rape in that case. When did people stop using 'ravish'?

When people started bitching that fangirls saying Misaki/Abel/*insert ravished character here* wasn't raped/abused/whatever is problematic and unhealthy and lots of other crap... even though looks like the fangirls were right.

I think the issue is that "I want to be raped" is a paradoxical statement.

Many feminists are very pro-BDSM and supportive of people who want really extreme sexual dynamics, but if it's actually wanted, it's consensual sex, not rape. So if someone comes up and says "I want to be raped!" then yes feminists are going to get upset because that just gives fodder to rape apologists.

But I want to be wanted beyond control.

That still =/= rape.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Would you say Anastasia Steele wasn't raped?

I don't know, I'd have to go back and read the relevant bits. Haven't read the whole book myself, just a few excerpts.

But the answer? If she didn't want him to fuck her, it was rape. It can be presented in literature as a fantasy but it is what it is.

DA

I haven't read that book but I know in fanfic there's plenty characters who get ravished and then inform the reader they wanted it at some point later. I'm not sure why people call this retconning when it's obvious it's clarifying ambiguous scenes.

Ok, then it wasn't rape. It was ravishment.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Why do people act like ravishment is a bad thing? It implies pleasure and bliss. I'm all for that!!

What do you mean by acting like it's a "bad thing"? As a thing that makes people happy I would say it's not a bad thing. From my perspective, the way it's described in conversations like this is very sexually unappealing to me, so I guess it's a "bad thing" from my perspective, but that's a personal treatment, not a universal one. Which definition of "bad thing" are you taking issue with?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
Well then she likes being raped.

So she didn't want it, but she did?

okayyyyy.
