Childhood nostalgia

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been listening to S Club 7 repeatedly today since their Children in Need reunion and it's frankly embarrassing how many of the lyrics I still remember.

I know I can't be alone in having these fits of 'back in my day...' so let's all share some of your most recent ones.

It's crazy how unbelievably cool that shit seemed back in the day as a kid, and now when you rewatch it it's all so awkwardly cheesy.

IKR THIS SO MUCH!

OP reminded me of the fact that just yesterday, I was opening one of my childhood favorite S Club 7 songs, "You", and I remember back in the days, me and my brothers and sisters would watch it and think everything in there was just so cool and like 'wow omg it's like it's in the future wowowo is this gonna be real' but now it's just crappy CGI and cheesy theme songs to me, what.

OR THAT S CLUB JUNIORS SONG. "New Direction" like damn, I don't even understand how we thought that one was cool, it's just a bunch of hipster kids flying on a carpet above snow wearing short sleeves, what even.

Not going to say what show it is but I recently watched a TV I LOVED LOVED LOVed when I was a thirteen year old kid and my reaction was "I can't believe I thought this crap was so cool!"

I used to watch that tv series. When was that? 97-98? I think it was after I graduated...

The nineties weren't exactly my childhood as I was in my teens by then, but a friend put together a music quiz of mostly 90's eurodance and I nailed all of it. It was a complete curb stomp battle, embarrasingly enough.

The Harry Potter fandom reunion makes me remember how involved the internet was pre-social media boom, which ironically was less social than the internet I remember. People didn't just "like" or "reblog" things, they connected and, you know, talked about them.

I recently was messing about with the HP fic that I wrote in high school. I was transcribing some of my notes, and it it just took me right back to those days. Like, drawings I did of my characters on some algebra notes. And for a while I was really into using my dad's old typewriter (because I'm a mega-dork) so there's actually a 3-page synopsis of this story that's all typed up.

This is how I feel about Naruto. It was pretty much the thing that got me into the world of fandom/fanfic (my first fic were Naruto!), and even though I don't even care about it anymore, I did feel something like nostalgia when it ended.

Early '90s pop, r&b, and rap. TLC, SWV, Mariah Carey, UB40, Salt n Peppa, Naughty by Nature, that kind of stuff.

One of Justin Timberlake's songs came on the radio and it sounded like such a Nsync song, I actually sussed out who would be singing which part.

Little House on the Prairie series. The Neverending Story.

Probably a few of the first novels I ever read (I read TNS when I was 3 years old even though it took me over three months to finish it).

THE SIMS!

I started relistening to all the old TS1 soundtracks. I forgot how good that music was, especially the piano stuff. Very relaxing. Honestly, I prefer it to the newer soundtracks, and that's not just a nostalgia thing.

Yes, the original Sims! When it was this original idea!
