That's not too bad. You do it professionally? What do you do for professional work? Manga?

If I ever make an account, would it be alright to contact you about translating something? Or is that too much to ask?

I work for an online translation service that takes contracts from a number of different adult entertainment companies, both manga and live action, but I can't go into specifics because that's NDA town.

Feel free. As long as it's Japanese --> English and you're willing to pay I'm golden lol.

That's actually pretty neat. I want ask anything specific about it because NDAtown isn't fun. How long have you been translating in general though?

Ah, thank you! I'd be more than willing to pay. :)

I started doing it as a hobby about 10 years ago just for fun, but I kept doing it because I really liked it and started taking on more difficult pieces than just fanworks until I finally did my first professional piece (the English translation of Hirata Oriza's "I, Worker" play) while I was doing my Masters' degree four years ago. I kept doing fan stuff but started charging for it for the last couple of years, then applied to the aforementioned online company to supplement my meager PhD student stipend this January and got hired. I've translated ~650,000 characters with them so far.

That's actually pretty impressive. Ten years? Wow, thats quite a long time
The amount of porn you've translated must be insane. Did you self-study or take classes to learn the language?

That's quite a lot you've translatex for them so far. Does it ever get tefdious translating porn professionally? Especially with how repetitive it can get.

Oh I took classes in high school and college and did quite a bit of self-study to pass the JLPT 2/1, and obviously, I've also lived there - for about three years now.

Haha yeah sometimes. But it's also very entertaining sometimes, too.

Hey, out of curiosity - does that translation service only do Japanese/English or other languages, too?

I'm sort of interested in doing it.
