Devil May Cry. It's got four games in one continuity (with two different directors between them, and it shows), one reboot game in a new continuity (with associated comic), three novels by different authors, a comic, a manga, an anime, and a spiritual successor in the Bayonetta series (created by the director of the first game and chock-full of references to it). It's a mess, but oddly fun. Some people try to limit canon to the games only, but there's so much great stuff in the expanded universe that it's tough.

Oh. I was going to guess Touhou, but stopped myself because I didn't think that would be right. I didn't know about the Devil May Cry novelizations, only the games, anime and Bayonetta. Are they any good?

Expanded universe material can be a godesend if the original canon doesn't worldbuild much.

Sorry to say I never tried Touhou! The novels (full summaries here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_May_Cry_%28novels%29)) are okay, I like the first one, though it conflicts with DMC3 - it has an interesting darker take on Dante and Vergil's history, so it accidentally gives more context to their animosity in DMC3.
