Well, looks like I'm going to be a weirdo. I sleep with one of my favorite knives, a long knife (not long enough to qualify as even a short sword) that a very dear friend gave me about ten years ago. It stays under my pillow. If I'm anxious, I reach under the pillow and close my hand around the hilt, and it calms me down almost immediately. I also have my wakizashi propped up against the bed, by the side of the headboard. No, it's not a home security thing, it's a "Nonny is a weirdo" thing.

I usually have another person sleeping with me, too, usually my fiance, or my secondary romantic partner (as we are still trying to figure out precisely what to call our relationship -- "romantically involved" works but we aren't quite sure how to put that into a label for partner, because romantic interest sounds like we're in a romance novel or something, lol), neither of whom blink at sharing the bed with a bladed weapon. :P

I totally understand. When I want comfort, I like to sleep with a woman, all spooned up and snuggly and ready for sleepy morning sex.

But when I'm nervous, I like knowing there's a weapon in reach. It's not just you.
