Well, in the MCU they cannot mention that he is a mutant or any of that background. So his powers will be a mystery maybe?

eta: But no, they are different characters.

I'm betting they're going to ultimately reveal them to be Inhumans in the MCU. Makes sense with the movie coming up in a few years.

This is my belief as well, along with the 'special people' in AoS being humans with Inhuman heritage.
