Little girls like Elsa more because she's the one with powers, an awesome ice castle, a prettier dress, and the best character song. No deeper reason than that.

Same anon, and I didn't mean to belittle OP or Elsa with that comment (I also like her more because I relate to her). But it's true that when I was really young I chose my favorites for much more simple reasons, so I assume other little kids do too.

Not OP, but I didn't take your comment as belittling. Young fans won't be relating to any media in the same way or with the same criteria as older fans, that's a given.

Hell, even adults can take a shine to things because "it looked cool".

Anecdote

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
One of my Brownies (she's 9) told me that she loves Elsa the most because sometimes she feels really scared and angry and argues with her sister so she loves that Elsa is a princess who feels like she does, rather than "just being happy all the time like other princesses".

(I know that other princesses can be scared and angry and stuff, but usually they're reacting to outside situations and other people, not to internal feelings.)

Though I should add, one of the other girls brought her Elsa doll to a meeting with her and ran about zapping everyone with ice powers. So. :P

That's... actually really sweet, but also kind of sad that kid's media doesn't address those things, like feeling angry and having internal struggles.

Mr Rogers did a better job at that.

Mr. Rodgers did a better job at everything TBH.
