I do both. I don't see why they have to be mutually exclusive, or that one's better than the other.

For me it just depends on what sort of dynamic I'm focusing on at the time, and whether that's an OC pair or a fandom pair (or, occasionally, a mix of both) doesn't really matter much to me.
