Yeah, I think this is it, plus once upon a time most translations were censored in some way.

I once did a Scanlation myself, of a couple volumes of a manga, you can still find it out there.

While I'm not fluent in Japanese with a little help from a friend who was when I got stuck I was able to plug through it, and come up with something workable.

There's quite a bit I'd change about it, if I was doing it all over now... but when I compare my version to Tokyopop's I'll take mine any day, they actually drastically rewrote the script in several places, to cover up in jokes pertaining to other parts of the franchise, or just a hide a slew of cultural references.

I went a little overboard with the translator notes, and made a couple mistakes, but I still would never want to use Tokyopop's as my go-to.
