This is so false it's not even funny. Especially since some of the big groups release far nicer quality stuff--and for free of course--than official houses.

If both are available for free, people will choose the official ones. See the Hunter x Hunter or Attack on Titan scans. The fan translations are awful, but the official ones are pretty good, and you can easily pirate them.
