Re: Things you want to get hyped for but can't

I'm into sports anime, but sooo much on people really overstate how ~gay~ these series are btw.

Like, there's so many comments on "the basketball homos" "the volleyball homos", etc etc.

But what about it seems homoerotic in the text? I don't see it at all. I just see normal friendships, and rivalries, and sempai/kohai.. yeah, I ship all of the above type relationships, but I don't see how "homoerotic" they are.

It actually sits weird with me because it reminds me of homophobic men making similar claims. "The majority of the cast is male, it must mean it's really gay" "Not watching that gay shit" like stuff.

Extremes on both sides, I guess.

One thing that cracks me up on this front is that there is actually a petition on change.org protesting Vic Mignogna being cast in Free! Why? Because he's apparently a homophobe. But the thing is that Free! is not a yaoi/gay/BL anime. So it makes me laugh that these children are upset about him being cast in what is essentially a sports anime. I loved Free! and I can enjoy some of the shipping, but I can separate fantasy and reality unlike some of these other folks can.

Here's a link to the petition for those interested: https://www.change.org/p/funimation-vic-mignogna-is-openly-homophobic-cast-a-different-voice-actor-for-rin-matsuoka

Didn't Vic Mignogna change his views about in the last few years or so? Thought he did. Anyway, that petition is ridiculous.

ayrt

Yeah, I heard about that. Lol.

I do understand on some level though, due to the allegations of him being a sexual predator (although I don't know truth of them.)

But yeah, if anyone's against him for the reason of "destroying the gay in Free!" I'm seriously judging them.

No one's forcing anyone to watch the dub either.

Yeah, I dunno about any of his past allegations or whatnot, but because 'Free! Is full of boys love?' Just, no.

If I remember correctly Miyano Mamoru has stated he doesn't want to work on BLs and he worked in Free!, yet I haven't seen anyone complain about that.

So either that part of the fandom is in denial or they just don't care about making sense.
