Well IDK the fact that they're sharing it as a secret suggests that this is something they probably don't admit.

I feel like everyone else here is going out of their way to see the worst in OP, tbh.

I've seen people be really judgey of things in fanfic they don't like as reasons they don't like it, but just say "and that's why I dislike reading it/choose not to read it". Nobody seems to get on their ass about it unless they say something like "people shouldn't write that." or "put it on your personal journal because it doesn't belong on fanfic sites" or something like that.

All OP is doing is saying that they don't do what a lot of the rest of us do and don't see the point of it.

Going to a place where everyone does Thing A and saying, "I think Thing A is pointless, and that what you're doing doesn't matter" is generally not considered a polite thing to do.

This. The difference is that most of the people who dislike a certain kind of fanfic don't usually express that dislike on the fics themselves, or on comms dedicated to that kind of fic. In fact, doing so is considered rude and childish.

"don't usually express that dislike on the fics themselves"

Ohhh you sweet little naive flower. Are you familiar with "flamers/flames"?. Flames, or intentionally rude reviews were such a prominent thing on fanfiction communities that "don't flame" became a common thing to see in fanfic summaries.

It's still something that happens. People absolutely advertise their loathing of a fic or the canon the fic came from in their reviews. That is definitely a thing that happens.

Did you read my post? I didn't say it wasn't "a thing that happens," I avoided absolutes and any sort of precise language, the focus was on the general attitude toward flamers, which is negative and rather dismissive (in places that I frequent.)

It's okay to be confused, but please don't get upset over these things.

Thank you.

Adding "Oh but it's just my personal opinion!" doesn't count for shit when your personal opinion is going to be belittling about 98% of the audience you're voicing it in front of.
