I think it might also because you see a lot more positive fat guy role models, even though sometimes it's still bogged down in the same old stereotypical bullshit. Just look at how many leading men in comedy films and sitcoms are fat guys. Even though they often play into the "lol fat ppl r lazy" stereotypes, these guys are generally quite successful and get the girl. Pre 2010's, I can't think of a single fat female character on TV given that kind of exposure since Roseanne.

I don't remember exactly, but how did "Veronica's Closet" do? Of course, Kirstie Alley wasn’t quite as large as Roseanne, though...
