I wouldn't say no to canon Cooper/Audrey, but I have to admit... it wouldn't be the same with both actors older.

I'd feel a lot happier about it with them older, and it no longer involving a vulnerable, abused teenager with a grown man.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-18 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't, 'cause that's my kink.

DA

Hoo boy, same.

It gets a bit old listening to certain members of the fandom clutch their pearls over people shipping Coop/Audrey, as if it's some kind of moral transgression to do so. It's not even an unusual pairing, which is what baffles me about all the outrage.... But maybe it's just time to defriend some folks.

ayrt

Some people just can't quit the sweet, delicious outrage they feel over immoral pairings of fictional people. I usually suspect they're hypocrites, because they probably have a dodgy ship in their past as well, and yet...

+1, I liked the original dynamic of Audrey chasing after Coop and him refusing that and mentoring her instead, but I could totally go for them as adults.

I'm not into Cooper and Audrey (and I strongly doubt it's going to happen) but Gordon and Shelly getting together would be amazing. Willing to endorse this secret.

I'm here for Madchen Amick.

I just recently watched Twin Peaks on Netflix and was heartbroken when Cooper/Audrey ended. As for Shelly/David Lynch's character (can't remember his name) she can't do any worse than Leo and Bobby (who admittedly got better, but was still an ass).

Lynch's character was Gordon Cole. I looked it up because I was looking at the secret pic and thinking "Wait, that's not Kyle MacLachlan..."

Nope, Lynch was only interested in that ship because Audrey was sexy jailbait.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-18 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
That's the vibe I get.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-18 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I was a schoolgirl myself when I watched Twin Peaks, and Audrey seemed way older than me, even though she was supposed to be my age, so I never got that vibe.

Looking back, you may be right, but I'm not sure.

Lynch didn't have a recurring thread of sexy jailbait in his work, which he would have if he were hard into that kink. The women in Mulholland Drive, which may be his most erotic work to date (lesbian action!) were all definitely adults.

Have you ever seen any of his other work? I love David Lynch, but he has huge issues with women. There's a rape scene or a scene where a woman's pain is eroticized in almost all of his work. It's hard for me to believe the Cooper/Audrey thing wasn't just an exciting sex fantasy. Just look at the ogling way she's filmed when she starts hitting on him, always emphasizing her schoolgirl skirt and Lolita saddlebacks. He may not specifically have underage themes in the rest of his work, but ~sexy underage Audrey~ definitely fits in with his recurring fetish for helpless, vulnerable women.

Oh, YUCK to Audrey/Cooper. Fine if it was present and all but if they were supposed to get together when she was still a high school girl, that would practically be character assassination. Cooper would lose SO MUCH credibility.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-18 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's just me, but I think that'd be a damn fine plot twist for the show to deal with.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-18 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
Which was why Kyle MacLachlan refused to go down the romance road between his character and Audrey.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-18 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Also because Lara Flynn Boyle, his girlfriend at the time, didn't like Sherylin Fenn.

Basically this. So it could happen in the new series, but who knows.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-18 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
I was never much into the Coop/Audrey thing, but mostly because I had Coop pinned as ace/aro. So even the whole Annie thing really threw me off. :/

(Anonymous) 2014-11-18 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
When TP was written, I doubt people were on board with the ace/aro thing... Not saying it didn't exist back then, of course, but it wasn't the fad it is now.

Lynch/Mutschkin? :P

(Anonymous) 2014-11-18 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
I found the directo/actor interaction from the bonus material (forgot the title. McLachlan, Amick and Lynch talking "old times" and being awkward) really ...creepy, and I fear that's kinda gonna spoil their on-screen thing for me.
