That made me raise an eyebrow, too.

Pointing out that "blackface is wrong" doesn't make you an SJW.

It makes you... not a neonazi or racist douchebag?

Cue a bunch of Australians and Europeans arguing that blackface is actually totally fine

(Anonymous) 2014-11-18 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm Australian and it is NOT TOTALLY FINE FUCK EVERYONE WHO SAYS IT IS

We *do* have a nasty blackface tradition, though not as widespread as the US one, and golliwogs are not okay either.

There are instances in European traditions that would be considered blackface by uninformed Americans but have a vastly different and much much older background and can't be measured by US standards just because you fucked that particular thing up.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-18 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
Because blackface is an American concept of a particular thing that happened in America. You can't measure everything by American standards, not even racism.

+1

(Anonymous) 2014-11-18 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
it's wrong

(Anonymous) 2014-11-18 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Blackface as what it means in America, yes. Someone painting his face black for other reasons than to ridicule a black person, such as cosplay, not necessarily, and shouldn't be called blackface.

Why are we all ignoring the Australian in this thread?
