So that's what that was all about. Some people really think their coolness is determined by what music they listen to?

Okay, that explains a number of conversations I had in my early 20s with people who took what music I listened to waaaaay too seriously.

I mean, real musicians listen to everything. They're musical magpies.

Musical elitism is self-defeating, anyway. What one person thinks is cool, another one thinks is embarrassing.

To be honest, all the people I knew who were like this had other flaws as well. I didn't stay friends with them, although that might say more about me than them.

I feel just the same about literary snobs. It's ridiculous and so limiting. I have Star Wars novels on my shelf, next to Russian classics, next to text books about geology, next to Courtney Crumrin graphic novels. Depending what mood I'm in, all are worthwhile.

OMG I feel you on lit snobs. Ugh. They're insufferable.
