And god forbid if my music is in a different language. If I got nickel for every "but do you even know what they're saying?" I could pay off my college loans.

I love music in a foreign language. If I know too much of the language (eg Irish traditional music, and my Irish isn't that great) it can even spoil it for me. I spend my time trying to hear the words, rather than just kicking back and getting into the feeling.

I have a zillion world music CDs and most of the songs are not in English but who cares. They sound great and they convey so much just with their moods.

When people ask me 'why listen to music in another language?' I ask 'why listen to instrumental music?' That's the way I think of it. If it's in another language, no, you can't understand what they're saying, but the artist's voice is just another instrument.
