I just don't undertstand why you would get into a canon only to focus on something that is so minuscule in that canon that you have to make everything up about it yourself. If you want awesome female characters, maybe the Silmarillion isn't the fandom for you. Just like Generation Kill or The Pacific is probably not the fandom for you. And if you just want to write OCs, then just admit that you want to write OCs instead of grabbing a barely existent minor character and going on about how important they are.

I'm not one of the people. I just don't understand why you care. They aren't getting in the way of your enjoyment of what you like. Bashing people for not liking those characters is a different thing, but I don't see a problem with people liking what they like in peace.
