Re: Characters Unfairly Treated Like "Canon OCs" in your fandom?

The reason that a lot of people in fandom would use 'OC' a a pejorative is probably not because they assume all OCs to be self insert characters. But because in fandom it's a'foreign element' a lot of people (not all but lot) are in it for their love of the canon and it's characters. Using the term "Canon OC" to insult a character implies that the character "does not belong here" There are plenty of people who don't read OCs in fanfic but are happy to read about them in original fic

I don't think your statement that the majority of people see OC and immediately assume it's the same as "wish fulfillment character is correct. Certainly there are some but I don't think it's as prevalent as you assume
