Dual citizen who's lived in both countries and done a fair amount of travelling, and yeah, Canadians are on the whole a lot less vicious about shit-talking. It comes off less like sneering about those uneducated plebeians over there, and more like griping about that friend who you like but who occasionally does something incredibly obnoxious and makes you want to stuff them in a box for a while.

There are also a lot more direct comparisons between Canada and the US, and US policy is more likely to have a direct impact on Canada, given we share such a large border, and have such tight economic and cultural ties between the two nations.
